人間の特権とされてきたクリエイティブな分野に、人工知能(AI)はどこまで入り込めるのでしょう。私は、AIを使った音楽の作曲活動を行い、AIの創造性について研究しています。
人の音楽感性の模倣がAIにとって困難である限り、作曲AIにおける人とのコラボレーション機能は重要でしょう。人と密接に意思疎通し協力できるAIを追究して行きます。
一方で、AI単体での能力の現状は、人間の創作した曲のスタイルを模倣するレベルを超えているとは言えません。曲同士の意外性のある繋がりを見出すことが、創造性を持ったAIの鍵だと考えています。
To what degree can artificial intelligence (AI) systems penetrate "creative" fields considered the exclusive domain of humans? My research addresses creativity in AI through the design of AI systems that compose music.
It is extremely difficult for AI to emulate the human musical sense, and so a music-composition AI's functionality should prioritize collaboration with human users. I am seeking to build AIs that can work intuitively, hand-in-glove with humans.
That said, while current AI systems are not yet able to do more than mimic the style of human-composed music, I believe that teaching them to identify the surprising connections between difference pieces of music is the key to endowing them with their own creativity.
