We have all experienced fear or anxiety, whether from an imminent event or something uncertain, often interfering with our personal and professional lives. Many turn to bodily techniques, like deep breathing, to regain calm, yet the mechanisms linking bodily control to anxiety alleviation remain unclear. I am personally motivated to investigate how modulating signals such as respiration can alleviate anxiety by harnessing the body’s natural rhythms. Inspired by recent rodent studies on the role of bodily feedback in fear alleviation, I am driven to study how proactive engagement with bodily actions might reduce anxiety and improve emotional well-being. By uncovering these mechanisms, I wish to contribute to the development of safe, non-invasive interventions for anxiety.
