The number of artificial satellites orbiting the earth is increasing year by year with nearly 2,000 satellites currently in operation. In recent years, the lack of radio waves (frequencies) necessary for communicating with satellites has become a serious problem. If the space optical communication system currently under development can be established, high-speed and secure communication will be possible using low-power, small and lightweight communication devices. The elemental technologies required to achieve these have many similarities with optical disc technology such as servo control and signal processing. I will make full use of the technology I have cultivated through the development of optical discs so far, and will work towards the realization of this space optical communication system.
