Research, to me, is the pursuit of solutions to unsolved problems, where even the existence of a solution is uncertain. Sometimes, discovering that no solution exists is itself a breakthrough. While inherently risky, research builds intuition for identifying solvable problems and estimating the effort required, even if the solution isn't perfect.
My approach mirrors that of a data scientist: find questions for your data; find data for your questions. Some questions require abstraction and the power of mathematics, while others benefit from tailored, problem-specific solutions. Balancing these approaches is challenging, but the most rewarding outcomes arise when abstract insights yield elegant, general solutions.
I am particularly drawn to studying human behavior, such as popularity dynamics, polarisation on social media, or consumption of information. Motivated by specific questions, I seek universal patterns and rules that transcend domains. As such I have developed an appreciation for statistical tools and probabilistic frameworks that are widely applicable across fields.
This blend of practical impact and theoretical grounding embodies the spirit of my research.
