There is pleasure in good conversation. A few things we can find in good conversation are fellowship, surprising information or points of view, solutions to challenges we are facing, perspective and the satisfaction of agreement. On the other hand, bad conversations can make us feel alone, frustrated, unsafe or just plain angry.
My research is dedicated to making the pleasure of good conversation a more common experience in our online activity.
Crucially, the lack of good conversation could be an important tool for our democracies.
I study the structure of discussions online to find the right conditions for fruitful exchanges and how we can build technologies that preserve these conditions.
