Vittorio Loreto is a physicist who specializes in complex systems, innovation dynamics, and artificial intelligence. He is a professor of Physics of Complex Systems at Sapienza University of Rome and a member of the Complexity Science Hub in Vienna. From 2017 to 2023, he directed Sony Computer Science Laboratories (Sony CSL) in Paris, where he led the Innovation, Creativity, and AI group. In 2021, he founded Sony CSL – Rome, focusing on sustainability, the infosphere, and augmented creativity. His research focuses on statistical physics, network science, and social dynamics, particularly examining how new ideas and behaviors emerge and spread. Throughout his career, he has worked on topics such as granular media, complexity theory, information theory, network theory, social dynamics, and innovation dynamics. Loreto has led several international projects, including the EVERYAWARE project, which aims to enhance environmental awareness through social information technologies, and the KREYON project, which models creativity and explores the “space of possibilities.” As an active speaker, he has presented at TED and numerous international conferences, and he has published more than 200 articles in refereed international journals.
