Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Inc. (Sony CSL) was established in 1988 to pioneer new research fields and paradigms, as well as new technologies and businesses, for the good of humanity, society and our planet. Sony CSL empowers its researchers with the freedom to explore creative and imaginative research, with the goal of contributing to a better future. As of 2024, Sony CSL is engaged in a wide range of research themes accross its laboratories in Tokyo, Paris, Kyoto and Rome. These areas of focus include social issues such as ecosystems, urban planning, and the augmentation of human capabilities and creativity. A PhD or equivalent research experience
Full-time
Annual contract: renewable up to 4 times based on performance.
* After several renewals, candidates may be considered for transition to a permanent contract following a detailed performance review.

1) Initial Screening
Submitted documents will go through an initial screening process. Applicants will be evaluated based on their demonstrated research ability, and also if their research interests are aligned with the goals of the lab. Successful applicants will be invited for an interview, either online or at Sony CSL.
2) Interview
We will ask you about your experiences and perspectives (about 60 minutes).
3) Job Talk
The applicant will be asked to give a talk in front of all members at Sony CSL including the company president, outlining past achievements and future research plans. The job talk must be given in English, with a standard duration of one hour including Q&A.
4) Final interview
The applicant will also have a one-on-one meeting with the company CEO and CSO, along with personnel interviews before and after that.
Compensation will be determined based on the applicant's qualifications, experience, and demonstrated ability.
